Downtown Houston

MLK Unity Parade Route

The organizers of Houston’s two longstanding MLK Day parades to host a single, unified event in January 2026.

For the first time in over 30 years, Houston’s two major Martin Luther King Jr. Day parades are coming together—uniting as one to present a powerful message of peace, purpose, and progress.

Together, HOPE Members will join with the Greater Houston Community as we are embracing Dr. King’s dream by honoring our shared humanity and standing united.

Both the Black Heritage Society and the MLK Grande Parade have put on separate, yet eventful programs, including individual parades. Click on each to learn more about the two organizations hosting our Unity Parade!

Dr King holds a special place in the history of AFSCME, as his death came while supporting the striking Sanitation Workers of Memphis, the overwhelming majority of whom were black men.
